OUR HISTORY
In 1969 Roger W. Poyner began his estate planning practice by opening his first office in Monterey. Roger was early to recognize the benefits of a living trust and advocated its use for the efficient transfer of wealth long before most practitioners in the estate planning field. Roger is often referred to as the “pioneer of living trusts” by his peers in California, due to his longtime advocacy of living trusts as a superior method of asset transfer. In 1982 Roger opened a second office in Los Gatos.
It was with great pride that Roger’s daughter, Jessica J. Poyner, joined the practice in 1999 and, following in her father’s footsteps, became a certified specialist in trust, estate, and probate law by the California Board of Legal Specialization of the State Bar of California.
In 2006 the Law Offices of Roger W. Poyner officially became Poyner & Poyner, LLP when Roger and his daughter, Jessica formed a partnership. After Roger’s retirement, Poyner & Poyner, LLP became the Poyner Law Firm. Jessica continues to carry on the tradition of providing excellent family-focused estate planning.

Cay Alexander
SENIOR LEGAL ASSISTANT
Cay has been with our firm for over 20 years. She works in various areas of our office, but her main concentration is in probates and the administration of trusts after there has been a death. When she’s not busy with spreadsheets and tax forms she plays English handbells with her church group, crochets and knits, and most especially tries to spend as much time as possible with her two grandchildren, who unfortunately both live in Virginia.
Kerel Alexander
SENIOR ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Kerel Alexander started at the Poyner Law Firm in 1999, back when the firm was still the Law Offices of Roger W. Poyner. In his 20 years at the office he has worked his way up from data entry clerk, to the receptionist to his current position as Jessica’s assistant. Lots of things have changed in all those years, but the one constant is his enjoyment of baking and bringing various desserts in for the office to try.
Camicha Alexander
ADMINISTRATIVE BILLING CLERK
CaMicha Alexander is a San Jose native who rejoined our staff after being away for 12 years. She graduated in 2018 from Oregon State University with a B.A. degree in Communication. A now retired dancer and professional cheerleader CaMicha spends her time out of the office cooking, exercising and spending time with her dog Coco.
